About

Relay for Life is a community celebration honouring current and former cancer patients, their families and friends. It is a unique, empowering and fun event in which everyone can participate and make a real difference for people living with cancer right now and those who may be diagnosed in the future.

We usually do our Relay here in Kilkenny on the 3rd weekend of July.  The Relay starts at 3pm on the Saturday when we celebrate our VIPs – anyone who has ever had a cancer diagnosis, as they walk the opening Lap of Honour.  At dusk everyone will pause to remember those who lost their battle and those still fighting in a very special Candle of Hope Ceremony. The Candle of Hope luminaries line the track all night and act as a reminder to participants of the courageous men, women and children who have battled cancer.  On the Sunday the Relay closes around 3pm with our final Victory Lap.  Throughout the weekend of Relay we have numerous fight back activities which encourage us all to live healthy lives, take regular exercise, eat well etc so that ultimately we are helping to prevent cancer in the future.  We have teams of people who are doing the 24 hour relay and raising funds with every step taken.  All proceeds from our Relay go to the Irish Cancer Society (ICS), where they will then be used by the ICS to fund valuable research and services for patients and their families.   At Relay For Life The whole community are invited to come along and join in as we collectively CELEBRATE, REMEMBER and FIGHT BACK
